i definately dont have one of those resistors in my set up is that just sd1 only

I don't have one, and maintain that you don't need one either.

I think I'll call it an inline resistor, at least it's not confused with anything else then.

apparently the resistor (ballast) refered to in the diagrams is actually a resisted wire built into the loom , a pink wire somewhere between the black/white wire and the ECU ..
