Sherpa remote for LT77

Post by PortlandPop »

Can anyone help!!

I'm using a Sherpa remote on the back of my LT77 box.

Trouble is the ball joint coupling that bolts to the output shaft is very worn..

The ball and socket are held in by a retaining clip, so can be removed.

Does anyone know where I can get a 'new' ball and socket???

The brass ball has a part number stamped into it - EA162-391..tried 'googling' that as a long shot but no joy...

Cheers,
Nick.

Not sure which bit you mean. Have you a picture?
I have a microfiche of the LT77 Sherpa 'box, so I can probably get the proper part no if I'm clear about which bit it is.

It's the ball joint (like on a sperical rod end) that the gearstick locates into..

I'll sort out a photo....

Nick.

here´s a link to a Rimmers catalogue. I know that it is for normal LT77 remote but with luck the parts are the same:

Thanks for that link..

Going by that diagram, what I need is the 'sherpa' equivelent to items:-
42H1112 and UKC9338..

The part that is listed as UKC3011 is 'going by that diagram at least' the same shape as the Sherpa one..

You've just reminded me that somewhere buried in the loft is the SD1 remote linkage I had with the gearbox..I wonder if those parts are interchangeable???

I'll try and find it and see..

Thanks,
Nick.

Thanks Chris, perfect!!!!!

This is the part I'm on about..

According to your picture it's item 7 and the bit I need is a replacement for item 10.. (I'm gueesing the brass ball and retaining cup are one assembly?)

Only snag is, where to get them from?!!??

Cheers,
Nick.

Probably worth confirming that it is the correct part before ordering, but Britcar list the part number

http://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php?x ... currency=1

It looks to be a rose joint, so your local bearing supplier may be able to help

An awful lot of on-line Land Rover / Rover parts places list by part number. So it's worth trying Rimmer Bros, Island 4x4, etc etc to see if it comes up.

Hi Chris,

Does your microfiche quote the same part number as Bryan's link above?

The Brit-car site on the link list the bush as AAR1858 but the dimensions of 2cm x 13cm x 15.5cm mean it's the size of a dinner plate!!???

Even if I substitute the cm's for mm's none of them relate to the bush in my pic?

Thanks,
Nick.

The dimensions seem completely wrong, but the price matches Rimmers, and the weight looks in the right ball park.

Maybe give them a call?

I would think it's right though.

Cheers Chris,

I'll get in touch with them tomorrow.

Would be interested to see a rod end that's 15.5cm across though!!!!

Regards,
Nick.

Got in touch with them,

Dimensions are for the packaging it arrives in!!!!

They haven't got one in stock but will order one in, then measure it to see if it's the correct size..

Birt-car have been in touch again.

Land Rover say that part is now obsolete so no longer manufactured or available...

Oh well, looks like I'll have to put up with a 'vauge' gear lever, just keep stiring it round, I'll find a gear eventually!!!!!!

Cheers,

Maybe any bearing shop that sells spherical bearings could help ? You need tho have dimensions of the original bearing though.
