Post by V8James »

Hi all
Ive been offered a crane 216 cam for an RV8
Anyone know the spec of it + its rev range?
Also any mods needed for it?
Cheers

James

I used a 216 many years ago and still have the spec sheet.
Valve Lift:
With 1.6 ratio rocker arms --- inlet 0.456" & exhaust 0.480"

Cam Timing:
@.004 tappet lift Inlet open 21 degrees BTDC closes 65 degrees ABDC.
Exhaust opens 71 degrees BBDC closes 27 degrees ATDC.
Advertised Duration 266 inlet and 278 exhaust

Inlet Max lift at 109 degrees ABDC.
Exhaust max lift at 115 degrees BTDC

Recommended RPM
Min 2000
Max 4500
valve float 6500

As you probably know that the duration figures can be published in different ways depending on whether it is in relation to .004 lift or .050 lift.

At .050 lift the inlet duration is 216 (hence Crane 216) and exhaust duration is 228.

I recall that the tick over was lumpy but it pulled well up to 6000.
Hope this is helpful.
