Gearbox for 1993 3,9 V8

Hi - I'm getting really confused over which LT77 or R380 gearbox is compatible with this engine, sourced from where. Are TDi based gearboxes compatible? What is long and short shaft and what does it apply to? Which bellhouses are compatible, identified how? Is there any source of gearbox information anyone can recommend?

Thanks for your help with this one. It's a very basic set of questions, bur I want to make sure I get this right and I'm not sure where to get this information

The LT77 and R380 both came in two versions, a 4x4 version which had a long bellhousing (and hence a long input shaft), and a 2WD version which had a short bellhousing (and a short input shaft).

Both had V8 bellhousings Land Rover / Range Rover (long) and Rover SD1 (short). There were loads of other bellhousings too, e.g. 200TDi, O-series.

The LT77 came first, the R380 afterwards. The R380 was after the SD1 had finished production, however, 2WD versions were produced.

Swapping a 4x4 box to a 2WD box isn't trivial, which is a pity as there are loads more 4x4 boxes about!

So....do you know where's the best place or vehicle I can source a 2WD box - late as possible?

Doesn't sound trivial converting a box...but should I look at this?

If you wanted an LT77, there's a few about, eBay etc.

Not sure about an R380 as I don't know what they were fitted to. Maybe MGRV8 + Morgans and the like? I don't know if TVR ever used them, or just the T5?
