36-1 how to mount it??

Has anybody fitted a 36-1 0r 60-2 timing wheel on the front of a Gems serp engine, The onlt reason I ask is I have a steel flywheel and this doas not have the facillity to run the flywheel mounted ring, I know I could do it but it would be a bit of a pain, plus I would then need to get the flywheel re ballanced,
I can see me making a steel top hat that bolts to the bottom pulley/ballencer and fixed by the crank bolt, and located by the 2 withdrawl bolt holes, then machine the top hat to suit whatever timing wheel I decide to use, or possibly machine a flat on the back of the ballencer hub, and bolt thru there, TBH I think I would prefer it behind the pulley so its out of the way of the rad and fingers, but would the ballencer be OK to machine on the back as I would locate the wheel on a spigot, so I would introduce a stress riser into the ballencer,

Cheers Elliot, thats sort of how I envisaged it, My ballancer is slightly different, its radiused at the back and only two threaded holes that I assume are for a puller/removal tool, I dont think it will be a problem, just need to find a wheel to suit my needs, I like the one Tony has with the enlongated slots so its easier to set up

There are several dxf files in http://tvr.dspen.com/tw/ if you want to get one cut.

The two piece ones are not suitable for laser or water jet cutting BTW.
tw_RV8_36-1_1p.dxf is probably the one you want most of the others were playing with split 2 piece wheels (so you dont have to take the pulleys off) and some 60-2 wheels as well. I have a script to generate the dxf files in any size geo you want if needed, its only perl stuff.

Spend, do you get the wheels cut yourself??? I think a 60-2 would be preferable, its what I use at the moment, but I think I need to go with a bigger dia than I have at the moment so it sits proud of the ballancer ring, or use a folded sheet one like Elliots

I have a script to draw anything you want, I just feed it diameters ... and away it goes. You can take / mail the dxf file to anyone with facilities, should only cost @£20 including materials. Water jet is fine for one piece wheels, you just need to file out the holes (they dont cut exactly square you need wire erosion for that?). One of the drawings has spec of steel, some of them are just the cutting pattern. They were ordered for cutting instructions IIRC.

All any trigger disc needs is to be centralised and true...and with the missing tooth at a suitable place where you can mount a sensor and relate to TDC.

And if you have a lathe, mounting should be fairly easy.

Just machine the trigger wheel as needed to locate onto any round portion of the front pulley, then stick a couple of tack welds to hold it in place.

Ive never had a problem.

Very similar to what I did, excapt I just tack welded it to the pulley, lcoated on the pulley shaft itself.
