RV8 Ford Type9 spigot bearing

Post by beelzebubs »

hi guys the P6 box I have behind the 10A sd1 I have in my granada is kack.

I have a gm auto bellhouseing and I've modified this to fit on the front of a late 2.9 v6 manual box.

the conversion so far isnt pretty but it pretty soild.

question is, does any one know if there is an off the shelf spigot bearing anyone knows off to mate the 10a to a type 9?

thanks guys
Pawl

p.s

okily this is the first bit, this bolts to the gear box useing the original bell house mounting holes

Image

this plate is bolted to the gm automatic bell house useing the m8 holes where it originally mounted to the auto box. I captivated the nuts on the rear as this was easier and cheaper than going out and buying the right sized drill bit and a tap.

this shows how the 2 plates go together

and attached to the bottom of the bellhousing and from the side

Pictured from inside...I only have 2 of the BMW security nuts here at the mo cause my bosch drill just died, but you can see how the 3 items come together

I still have to make the mounting for the bearing but this is how it will sit...I just had to cut an access hole in the side of the bellhouse so I can get to the pipe and the bleed nipple

As I say, got a load of tidying to do but more pics to follow.

Oh and while I was at the scrappies I also got a Mitsubish L200 clutch plate, this fitted the Ford splines just grand, but was 5mm to wide, but I centered it in the pillar drill and ran a file round it, and now it fits a treat :)

Hi.

I have a SD1 V8 mated to a ford Type 5 V6 gearbox from a 2.8 (same input shaft as the Type 9).

I got an LT77 spigot bush and got it drilled/reamed to fit ford gearbox shaft.

Im not aware of any off the shelf items that fit, but there could be.

how are you finding the type 5? I had a 2.3 years ago with a type 5 and it was ok, but then the 2.3 estate wouldnt pull the skin of a puddin.

so you are saying standard sd1 bearing and then ream it out,,,,cool, how mch was it reamed out by, cause if its only a little bit i can mount the spigot shaft in the pillar drill and run a file on that instead.

Type 5 is a fantastic box for the V8, gear ratios are spot on. (well i think so anyway) Ok it hasnt got a 5th gear, but its ok with a 3.09 diff ratio.

not entirel sure on the measurement, its not a lot though.

thanks...I had an oillite bush made up to mount the p6 4 speeder to the engine, but that lasted about 10 miles.

the p6 box i have is garbage, the gear change is rubbish, and it sounds like straight cut gears....as i say garbage.

hence why i'm going down the type 9, fits in the hole, looks like a ford gear stick, can use a speedo cable thats off the shelf, and a 2 litre cortina front section for the prop fits a treat :)

Okily dokily, the end result is an SD1 spigot bush, drilled out to 15.14 mm, this was done with a 15mm drill bit that took it out to 15.1, and the extra .04 polished out with emery.

The gearbox is sat 2 inches further back than it would have been behind a Ford engine install, and this made it 100% the right distance to fit a Scimitar 1 piece prop, the only thing I had to do was swap the flange at the diff end of the prop, to a flange off a granny prop.
