Typical Rebuild Cost

Post by satancom »

Ok I have more or less finnished my engine rebuild and install into my land rover. What would a typical rebuild for a Rover V8 cost?

Its set me back £809 and that was without having the block re-boared! Its all standard spec, although I had to buy a few extras, like a fuel pump and some pipework!

Just wondering what the average cost was ? :)

Probably about right for a standard rebuild.

Performance rebuild would start at about £2k and just go upwards depending on the spec.

I stop'd counting the numbers cause it gives me sleepless nights. For shure a Viper engine was cheaper by now. But still having fun.

Yes but it does become addictive. I blame my parents for giving me that first Meccano set.

engine building doesnt end, it starts of fine, but then you hear a little voice in your head saying, You could make it go quicker, just some good exhausts thats all, and while your at it get the heads reworked, and before you know it youve got a performance engine and an empty bank account, so it never really ends, and i love it :D rich

It certainly is addictive as well as carrying a virus which makes sane people loose all rationality.

My 455 build was supposed to be a mild work over to freshen the engine and restore any lost power. I etsimated around £2k for that.

So far I haven't even started putting the engine back together and the cost is already in the region of £6k and has gone from around 400bhp up to closer to the 550-600 range.......and I've got two eatons in the workshop which stare at me whenever I go near them.

Its that little voice which says "Yes that's a sensible choice......but for another couple of hundred you could get a few more bhp"

The build is starting to push into serious power and torque figures. The main issue now is how much to spend beefing up all the other bits. The gearbox for example has gone from a £300 rebuild to something around £1K. The diffs are now KAM, god nows where I'll source brakes big enough for this thing.

But hey-ho what else would I be doing with these long dark evenings :D

A 455, aftermarket heads and a pair of eatons, that is going to break gearboxes faster that Elliot  this I want to see. Are you going to give it a sniff of Nitrous so it picks up nice and quickly
