--------------To totaling my new engine, I put a new uprated oil pump on the engine yesterday, Run it up, had a little drive, no leaks nothing, Happy camper,
Today I took it for a blat along a big long fast road near me, thru the little village and onto a roundabout, as I have slowed down for the roundabout, the world has turned blue with oil smoke, checked oil guage, which still showed 55lbs, and pulled up in a bus stop which was conveinently placed for me, Got out expecting to see the rocker cover weeping onto the exhaust, what I did not expect was a gush of red hot oil shooting onto the inner wing, ooeer, thats not meant to happen, quick switch off, bit of a WTF moment as I have left my phone at home charging, and Im in the middle of nowhere, left it to cool for 5 mins and turned the engine over, and I find the oil pump gasket has blown out the side of the pump, hence the gusher, I find later the trail of oil must be at least a mile long behind my car I was fortunate enough to find a spanner that I could get on the bottom of the pump, nothing to lose, pulled the base up TIGHT, started it up still leaking but a dribble now, so being brave, I slowly reversed my car up a side road so i could turn around and spotted a little garage, quick recce, to find they sell 20/50 4 litres on the back seat, Im off home, slowly. followed by a blue haze, stopping every half mile or so to top up the oil, got home still with oil pressure where it should be PHEW,
NOW I am Glad that I fitted a 7 litre capacity sump!!!!!!!
