water flow direction

Post by Ralphh85 »

i presume the water flows in through the pump threw the engine then out the housing just above the pump?

if this is correct then the air con thermostatic switch would be suitable to turn on/off an electric fan as its on the exit?

Normally water flows up through the engine, and down through the radiator.

Cold water in bottom, and hot out the top of the engine.

cool i presume its in the pump then, (on the rangy) will get it flowing down the rad to.

not so good but im gonna have to have a 135degree bend coming out of the pump as to take it back up above the engine.

That's a bit of a moot point. I believe that it's better to have the temp sensor in the bottom hose, to ensure that the engine gets a supply of cool water. If the rad is getting a good airflow, but the engine is belting out very hot water, then there's no point in the fan coming on, yet a top-hose sensor will still turn the fan on.......

hum, maybe, thermostats are usually on exit as thats a better gauge of engine temperiture than water in, if the engines putting out load of hot water then it suggests it needs more cold water?? (tho maybe not rad fan).

not sure.........

is the air con thermotwatic switch a closed when to hot switch??

Most modern engines run their thermostat on the cold side.....entrance to the engine.

k series engine does, but i think this is to get them to warm up quicker for low emitions etc.

but if you are driving normally then start ragging it theres a delay int he hot water getting back to the 'stat, especially on else/mgf where the rads at the frotn ane ngine at the back, so there are kits to move it to the exit.

i wouldnt think stat on cold side is good for performance, but is for a road car as warms up quicker. but onyl under steady driving.
