Torque wrench calibration.

Post by HairbearTE »

Anyone know where I can get this done? I've been given two torque wrenches that have supposedly never been used and this does appear to be the case. One of them has a cert in the box from 2005 at the factory and the other one has no paper work but is said to be 10 years old or more! I'm thinking I should get them tested before using them, especially the 10 year old one. Anyone know where & how much? The wrenches are nothing fancy, one is a sealey and the other a draper, so if it did cost a bit to do then might not be worth it but it'd be a shame to bin 'em as they are both effectively brand new!

have you checked them against each other? I don't think a torque wrench should vary much with time, just if they are used and outside their recomended range. It would be fairly straightforward to make a test rig for one, a known leaver arm and a known load (say 2 foot long) a 10lb load and a torque arm in a good set of bearings firmly mounted.

One is rated at 10-100lbs and I think the other is 20-150 or some such. I'll double check that tomorrow.

I always check mine with a spring balance which I reckon is accurate enough for putting engines together.

You could try BSRIA in Bracknell if you want it calibrated. I use them to calibrate all my test instruments.
