Bloody car is fighting me

Post by ian.stewart »

2 steps forward, 3 back at the moment,
went to put my "NEW" still in box SwapMeet vernier chain onto the cam today, the keyway has been fubared, looks like the broach has broken while cutting the key and taken a huge lump out of the back of the keyway, it fits like is pr-ck in a top hat, I think I have got that sorted in theory, Ive taken the vernier apart, and I am going broach a new keyway 180deg opposite in the hub, the sprocket has 40 teeth so as long as its cut around that position I can reassemble the vernier 180 degs to its original position so the dot will be in the correct place, and take any misalignment with the vernier,
So I now think lets put together one of my cylinder heads, got my new valves, wash, scrub etc, dismantle it give it another clean, refit the valve seals, and kill one of those first go!!! lap all the valves, dismantle clean and final assy, not going too bad, drop the head onto the block, and then find Ive lost a head stud, where the fook thats gone I dont know, but its pi-sed me right off.

If its a true vernier, and you are dialling in the cam properly...then where you key it hardly matters, apart from simplifying the initial dummy build.

hate it when poop like that happens though.

Could well be !!.

Summit do an excellent cam dialling setup, for about $85 or so.

Good large diam Aluminium protractor, dial gauge, mag stand etc etc....bloody bargain, and handy !! all in a good plastic case.

I know you probably have all the stuff anyway....just thought Id mention it. I had lots of loose bits for doing the same too...then bought this. I was amazed at the quality, for the price.
