Low Fuel level Light

Post by tetlow »

Due to having a V8 in my MGB with a tiny stainless tank I need a light to say "Go to the Fuel Station".

I appreciate it will light 2 minutes after I leave the garage but that's not the point!

Are there any clever bods out there with a circuit to monitor the fuel gauge input and indicate when the level reaches a certain point?

Regards :D

I thought I could see the light at the end of the tunnel but it turns out it was a train comming!!

The Tank sensor I put in my Kitcar had several contacts on the top and one was for 'Low fuel level warning light'
Got it from Europa Specialist Spares.

Here's a fully calibrated fuel gauge i made, you could just duplicate one circuit to achieve what you want:
http://www.mez.co.uk/ms13.html

this chap made a 4 LED version of the same thing:

All a comparitor does, is compare the input voltage against a reference voltage - if they are the same the led comes on. So i have 8 adjustable reference voltages via the 8 mutli turn pots, you calibrate each one to a known amount of fuel. In my case, each led is 2 gallons.

Just tested the circuit.

Works a treat. I reversed the inputs so it now is not a fuel gauge.

It will flash when the fuel sloshes around but this will be a bonus as a flashing light is easier to see than a static one.

Thanks Eliot.

Good-o.
Glad it worked - simple but effective. £10 says you build the full 8 led version!
