Thanks for posting the pic.
I've got a bit more info about my block from RPI (Holley seems to know everything about RV8's).
He is sure that the short motor was built by Power Train Products and that they always cut "eye browse" into their pistons as their motors ended up in TVR's and Morgans that ran with hi-lift cams. I'm sure that the pistons did not fly apart in those motors so mine should be fine.
A nice bonus is that they balance their engines to a finer tolerance than Rover ever bothered to do.

You could try to locate a set of 4,0 litre pistons. They have a smaller dish and you could raise the CR. Skimming the block is not exactly cheap. I believe someone had a set of 4,9 litre internals for sale just a short while ago.
I cut valve reliefs to my 4,6 litre pistons and have not found any problems. Latest Rover pistons are quite nice design and seem pretty strong.

I think that I'll stick with the pistons that I've got as I now know where they came from (Power Train Products). These guys supplied blocks for TVR so I guess that they will be OK for me!
I will get 40 thou skimmed off the heads (which will make 80 in total!).
This will cost me 80 quid but should get the compression up round 9.75-10:1 (If i've used my burette correctly!)
