Getrag box, does anyone know?

Been trawling around the net for ages now, but I cant find a definitive answer to this.

I know that some competition RV8s use a getrag race box, from what I can gather it has a dogleg 1st gear. Question is, does anyone know what type/model it is or where I could get one?
The circuit car ive got previously had one of these boxes and ive got the fabricated mount and propshaft for it and it would make sense to use them if I can find the gearbox!

Previous owner moved abroad so I cant ask him

Any ideas guys?

The old M3's and M5's used a dogleg Getrag.

Good strong boxes apparently, and they cost a fortune to repair.

The dogleg box has the number 262 on the side of the casing and was most commonly found on the old E28 style M535I. It was also used on 635CSI's as well, although these are not so common in manual. If your getrag has the number 265 cast into it instead of 262 then it is one of the more common non dogleg boxes found on, amonst others, 6-cylinder manual jaguars. The getrag boxes are good but by no means bombproof.

Any idea if you can get a stronger/straight cut gear kit for them?

The 262 dogleg boxes fetch strong money, i have seen people pay £700 for a worn one and up to £1000 for a minter.

I have one in one of my Mantas and it is a good strong box but the final drive is 1 : 1, no overdrive, mine came from a BMW 535M

Yeah Stevie, I know a lot of guys really rate the supra box but matching the bellhousing might be a pain for me. Have abandoned the idea of the getrag race box, they are so hard to get and expensive, really expensive! when you can find one.

Think I will most likely look out for a T5, can get a bellhousing easy for it and its fairly easily re-buildable if need be.

You can get a bellhousing the bolt the Supra box to pretty much any engine from Australia or New Zealand.

Heck, I got mine way back around 2001 or 2002 !!!!!

If you can find a box at the right price, I dont see a Supra conversion as being anymore costly than a T5. When I was pricing both T5's and bellhousings way back in 2001 etc, they were an absolute fortune ! Places were wanting around £500 for a bellhousing !!

As per an earlier thread, I got a quote of about £650 from Dell Automotive for the Supra-to-Rover V8 bellhousing, plus all the gubbins needed to make it work.

Add in the price of a gearbox - say £150, not a bad price and stronger than a T5 apparently
