Finally got the new 4.6 installed

Post by Dixie6789 »

Well its finally installed. Started it yesterday, took a bit of time but it runs and has oil pressure. Only been run for about 2 minutes, so Its still lumpy and I doubt lifters are pumped up.

Will run it for 30 mins at 2500 rpm on Friday to bed cam in. Then off to the rolling road.

Can I ask where the rolling road is you are going to use?
I am reasonably near to you and may shortly need one.
Thanks.
Andy.

I am using Jamie Bryant.

He did all my cylinder head work and re-ground the crank.

Rolling Road is £65/hr. I am booked next Friday.

Started motor today for cam break in.

Motor sounds brutal and louder than my 3.5.

No ticking, tapping etc. And no vibrations at all, stayed at 80 deg.

very pleased.

Thanks Perry. Couldn't have done it without this forum and the Cobra site.

And Chris lending me his pressure testing kit.

That looks and sounds marvelous. Like the colour scheme too, sure beats the usual metallic blue Cobra's. Do post RR results...

A mate of mine finished his Cobra build last year and it has a 389 chevy fitted. Its fine in traffic but on the motorway it over cools. We have proved that the stat works as well. There is so much free area up front the wind whistles around the engine bay easily. I always fancied a Cob but never got round to getting one :(

Mmm, it would be very nice to have a 289 Cobra Le Mans one day, the one with the detachable roof. There's a very fine and detailed project build here http://jontowers.co.uk/cobra289/

Just put on a geared starter, Due to tune of motor, the C/R is at 10.3:1 so the std starter just wont cut it.

Hopefully this will help.
