No PTFE tape on the threads just the included washer.

Thanks for the reply Ian. Unfortunately the TR7 does not have a voltage stabiliser for it's gauges. Earlier TR's did but not the 7. Tha battery is not that old and I use CTEK MXS 5.0 to trickle charge over winter. All the other electrical items in the car are all operating as they should. I may well...
