I've seen the cam running in process mentioned on a few forums, did Rover do the same thing in the factory with new engines ?

Rob, If the tappet is noisy I would imagine it is causing the rocker to valve gap to be too large. If so, the old trick to find the noisy one was to slide in a feeler gauge between the rocker and valves one at a time with the engine running- something like 10 thou would be a good starting point - it...

John,

I sent you a PM yesterday to say I have a new unused one, it came with a pair of new carbs I bought. If you send a pic of yours to the email address I sent I'll compare it to the one I have.

As a quick reference is that the device with the blue plastic cover ?

A bit tricky to track down, but I found some in the end. Elvis Presley had lent them to the Loch Ness Monster to help put a bus on the moon, but once I knew that they were easy to get hold of!

Thanks for the tip.[/quote]

Hugh,

Where did you eventually track the Manta seals down ?

Valve springs

I have a Rover V8 engine, it's in a factory MGB V8 and has the P6 style dual valve springs. Does anyone know if the SD1 style single springs can be fitted in their place? I have SD1 single spring caps to use, but have read that the springs won't seat properly in the head, but as they are slightly sm...

If this is a typical Smiths gauge, it will have a bi-metal strip and coil to heat it. If so, then the polarity won't matter - the MGB fuel gauge is this way and the similar Smiths temp gauges are almost identical.

I haven't had the milling work done yet, the car's still on the road so I thought I'd leave it all till the winter and do it then. I'm hoping it won't be too expensive, but I can imagine a machine shop reaction when you want 16mm cut away instead of a few thou on a head skim.

Hotwire/flapper common parts

Do the hotwire EFi systems have any parts in common with the older flapper ones? I was thinking mainly of the manifold, the base plate with the eight trumpets and the plenum cover. I'm about to fit a flapper system to an MGB GT V8 and have to have these parts milled down to clear the bonnet, I was h...
