With regard to the frequency of the knocking, it is not constant but when it happens it is regular (ish). Having run the engine with the rocker covers off, trying to source the noise, it appears to be timed to valves opening on predominantly cylinder 5.
The noise completely goes away for a good ...

Hi All
Hoping someone here has some more ideas as we are running out fast...
We have a knocking sound very much like top end noise probably more evident on the nearside of the car than the offside.
We have so far: changed the cam (for new standard cam), cam followers for new hydraulic ones ...
