Can I do away with the poppet valves?

Thanks I will strip the carbs down and go through them. I thought it might be in the carbs. thanks again.

Hi thanks for your reply but both carbs were fully closed. the engine is in the open so easily checked.

Hi 3.5 ltr. removed sump removed oil pickup and thoroughly cleaned refitted new gasket and refitted the sump. put in new engine oil 20/50 new oil filter and run engine . the pressure went to 30 lb .( this has a mechanical oil gauge) drops to 20 lb after a few mins then down to 5 lb even when revved ...

Whats the vacuum signal being picked up from? Are you checking the idle running with the vac disconnected?

the vacuum is coming from the n/s carb and it is working. have disconnected the vac pipe reved to 2000 rpm timing light on no.1 plug. the tdc mark on pully flashes between 8 and ...

vacuum is from one of the carbs and have disconnected it . showing 30deg retarded at 2000rpm

As it's in a trike there could be some confusion about what cylinder you are calling no 1.

No 1 is the cylinder nearest the distributor cap.
