You can get a kit of SS bolts from Ebay which has spares in all the alternate lengths. So should work for any engine. I've seen these, and they're probably my best option. However, are they any downsides to using stainless? I guess if one was to break (during removal at a later date) it would be mo...

Thanks for your reply. I would be happy to reuse the bolts, if they were in good condition but I have heard stories of bolts being badly corroded. Although the main reason I want to have replacements handy is if one or more of the existing bolts is seized and break upon removal, i have read that thi...

Water Pump Question for Rover V8 Gurus out there!

Good Morning! I'm really hoping some one can help me, as I'm finding it very difficult to gain information on this matter. I have an '88 Land Rover 90 factory fitted with a 3.5, running SU Carbs. The vehicle has PAS and originally had Air con which was removed by the previous owner. Engine number is...

Sorted! I went to Halfords as you suggested Chris and got a belt 675mm long and it fits perfectly! If my source is reliable that is the correct length of a genuine Land Rover belt (something I later found out). It seems that sellers of non-genuine belts possibly source belts of a particular size and...

With all due respect, if the belt was 2073mm that would mean the belt is a little over 2 metres long! Or am I being stupid as per usual?! I've done a bit of research as to what belt might be suitable and it does seem that it's common for the belt dimensions to be incorporated in the part number, lik...

Thanks for your reply Chris, so it's a common (ish) problem?

Never thought about using a different belt- great idea! I suppose it just needs to be the same thickness? And of course the length I need.

Alternator Belt

Hi all, I have a '87 Land Rover 90 with a factory fitted V8 and I have recently changed the alternator belt and on full adjustment the belt is only just tight enough. The belt is ERR2073 which I believe is the correct one so what have I done wrong?! Is there something I have missed? The engine is a ...

Hi Ron, I overhauled the carburettors in April this year, the spindles didn't look worn and new seals were put in upon reassembly. I have also checked the spindle/seal area for leaks by spraying easy start around them and listening for any increase in rpm - something I read somewhere, not sure how r...

Idle Rising When Engine Warm

I have a 3.5 with SU carbs, which idles at around 750/800 rpm when cold. but once upto operating temperature it rises to about 1000rpm. Has anyone any ideas what could be causing this? I've done a bit of research but can't really find anything, other than possibly a problem with the bi-metallic temp...

Spot on Katanaman, thanks for that. Couple of questions though:
When you say a groove, do you mean around the circumference of the valve head? Also, did you mean that preload will only be affected if you have the valve set re-cut?

Many thanks,

Mark

Well, got the parts just waiting to finish preparing the heads - time is pretty limited right now. Quick question, I'm about to lap the valves as they are pitted - can you go too crazy and go too far with the grinding? If so how do you know how far you can go? Spend you money elsewhere before you th...

As for the valley gasket I guess it's a no brainer - there's little reson why I shouldn't go with the composite gasket?

Cheers Kevin, I think that's what I'll do.

It's a 3.5 running SU carbs... I'd like something a little tastier once the rest of the vehicle is up to scratch - a long way off!!!
