1600 odd quid sees you a new Goodwrench crate engine anyway doesn't it? That'll make what, 250BHP - decent intake, headers, carb, ignition system and so on would probably warm that up a treat....drop in a cam and some rockers and you'd be well on your way....and that'd be brand new throughout.

My new coil is on order now so I await its arrival with intent. I will put a voltmeter on the coil soon and see what's what there - I noticed today looking at the fuse box there are a few scotch blocks drifting around...Hmm.

Once I get it ...

Checked the vacuum advance pin - not that - and if I blow or suck down the tube I can see the baseplate moving so assume that' all OK....

Looking at your pics you can see that the arm from the vac unit is in a different place to where it was before you fitted the points so it's possible that you have missed the locating hole. See if the baseplate is moving around all over the place.

Aha! I did indeed fit one with a peg, which ...

Running a ballasted coil, 1.5ohm jobby. Is wired the same way, I think, as the one I removed.

All the coils I have slosh a bit, that right? :lol:

That earth lead in the dizzy is supposed to have a sheath? Mine's just a tatty bit of copper wire, about 12 strands if that :lol:

One thing that confuses me - the needles run in the jets which you can move up and down with the adjustment screw - but the jets ...

They're HIF6s, probably all over the place too :lol: All a bit of a non-starter this, really - but I'm just going around in circles now doing the same old things.

I did follow the Burlen guide to reset them to factory 'tuning' settings so it should run OK, especially as you can only set the idle ...

Struggling really badly with this P6 at the moment. Firstly the fuel tank was filled with crud which promptly got sucked up and jammed everything solid, and now this...

Thanks - what distributor will this be? Was looking at Aldon's website for the Ignition II kits and coil and there's many options......It's a 71, on HIF6s?

Any recommendations for ignition systems - want to ditch this points, condensor and coil if possible as they're unknown anyway

Have taken the rather brave leap of taking a totally unknown P6, and adopting it as my daily driver.

Yea, I'd check the vent system too.

The oil pressure was always high on my 3.5EFi, never did really look into it.....Never seemed to harm it, though (even after dragging it several times).

Only started leaking oil when I removed the PCV system....soon ...

...forgot to say, part of this 'rich' conclusion came from the fact that if you had your foot depressed on the pedal when starting warm/hot today, it'd run.

Take your foot off though and it'd eventually slow, stagger, then stop. Seems to be improving with every little tweak though so hopefully a ...
